Filing and Amending Returns in LaTAP
How do I file a return in LaTAP?
Once logged into LaTAP select the tax-specific account at the bottom of the LaTAP home page. From the account page locate the “filing periods” section the below the green bar toward the bottom of the page. Locate the filing period that you wish to file and click on the “File Now” link to open the online return form. Once you have completed the return use the “next” button at the bottom right corner of the return. If your return is without error, you will be prompted to enter your password as your electronic signature before submitting the return. If you are not prompted to enter your password, review your return for line items that are shaded in red and/or any error messages displayed on the right side of each line item.
When must I file my return for it to be timely? Is there a grace period?
Returns must be filed by the filing period due date to avoid penalties and interest. There is no grace period.
Will I get a confirmation number if I file my return in LaTAP?
Yes. After submitting a return in LaTAP you will receive a confirmation number for your records.
How long will it take for my returns to be processed?
LaTAP returns are typically processed nightly on business days, so they are typically processed and completed by the next business day. Note that some returns require a manual review before they are posted to the account. If you submit a return that requires a manual review the “return status” will indicate that your return is “processing” in the filing period list.
Where do I key in the Schedules for my return?
If a schedule is required, you will see a underlined phrase telling you to "Click here for Schedule A" (schedule name could be different for different returns types) on the online return form. This link will open the schedule for your return.
How can I print a copy of my return?
Open the return you wish to print using the “view return” link on the filing period list of your account page. Use your browser print option to print your return. If your return includes any schedules, you will need to open the schedule using the “click here for Schedule” link in the return and then use the browser print option to print the schedule. Some returns and schedules do not fit on standard 8.5”x11” paper. To correct this issue you must change the printing options in your browser to landscape (11”x8.5”) so that all figures will display on the printed return. Improved printing capabilities are being developed so that these additional steps will not be required to print returns in the future.
I made a mistake on a previously filed return. Can I amend it in LaTAP?
Yes. Once logged into LaTAP select the tax-specific account at the bottom of the LaTAP home page. From the account page locate the “filing periods” section below the green bar toward the bottom of the page. Locate the filing period that you wish to file and click on the “View Return” link to open the previously filed return. You can amend the return by selecting the “Change” button toward the top-right side of the return. LaTAP will allow you to amend your previously filed returns, regardless of whether it was originally filed electronically or on paper.
I used the "Save and finish later" button to store my return in a draft format. How can I complete and file this return?
If you used the “Save and finish later” option, your return status will display as “stored” in the filing period list on the account page. Select the “stored” link to access the draft return. Use the “change” button located at the top right side of the return to open the return for editing and filing. Once you have completed the return use the “next” button at the bottom right corner of the return. If your return is without error, you will be prompted to enter your password as your electronic signature before submitting the return. If you are not prompted to enter your password, review your return for any error messages displayed on the right side each line item.
Why isn’t the filing period that I need in the filing period list?
If you are trying to file an older period, use the “all available” link in the green filing period bar to display all filing periods for the last three years. You cannot file prescribed period returns in LaTAP. Also note that LaTAP will only allow you to file for the filing periods associated with the taxpayer’s registered filing frequency. If you are a quarterly filer trying to file more frequently (or vice versa) you should contact LDR to determine if you can change your filing frequency.
